Whitman College Campus Kids Day this Friday

Hello Walla Walla!

Before we get set for summer tennis, there is a lot going on in the Spring to share.  Both the WaHi and Whitman College teams are in the midst of their seasons and are playing great tennis.

This weekend the Whitman Women are at home Friday and Saturday for our last regular season matches of the weekend.  Catch the excitement as the team looks to finish the regular season undefeated in conference, which would earn another home weekend the following week alongside the men during the conference championship tournament.

This Friday at 4pm, the Women host Pacific Lutheran University.  This is our Campus Kids Day!  In the past it has been a fun way to get kids of all ages and families together watching college tennis.  The exposure to the sport is terrific and to have it right here in Walla Walla is exciting.

Here's what will happen:

The match starts at 4pm with a doubles proset and we'll have activities next to the courts including racket stenciling, face painting, a free raffle (free for kids up to age 18) with prizes.

We're going to do some on court contests too so bring your rackets and either between singles and doubles or after the match we'll do a fast serve contest, target contest and rally contest.

The matches will be outside at Whitman weather permitting, and indoors if wet.

See you on Friday!

Coach John and the Whitman women's Tennis Team.

Walla Walla and Whitman Winter Tennis Camp

Hi all,

As the holidays approach, I am so excited for the new year.  For the fifth year in a row, the Whitman Women's Tennis team will offer our winter after school camp Jan 7-11th!

We have the camp split into 3 groups.  Each day from 3:30-4:45  we'll have a quickstart camp.  This is for 10 and under players who are working up to playing on a full tennis court with yellow tennis balls.  This format allows us to have a ton of fun in a group setting with an emphasis on learning and developing shots.

The 5-7 session will have both Beginner to Intermediate players on the full court, while at the same time, we'll run our academy sessions.  The academy sessions will push players who are playing high school or tournament tennis to the next level.  Both will use drills, games and competitive play to enjoy a week of improved tennis!  All camps are directed by Whitman Head Coach John Hein and will take place indoors at Whitman in the Bratton Tennis Center.  You can sign up at the city of Walla Walla Park and Rec office or website.

Many of the top Whitman players are coming to coach, and all have great experience coaching all levels and age groups.  This is a 'camp' so the sessions are progressive and the feel of the week is wonderful.

Cost for the quickstart session is $55 and for the full court sessions, it is $75, a T shirt is included.

Please share this with your friends and schools, we want to see lot of people enjoying this wonderful sport.

LET'S COMPETE. RIGHT HERE IN W2!

That's right folks, its the annual USTA (United States Tennis Association) summer tournament at Whitman.  The Subway State Games of WA is hosted by Coach Jeff at Whitman and has skill divisions for novice (first tournament) players, challenger (getting into match play but haven't won lots of matches or a tournament at the level) or Champs (more experienced tournament players playing for ranking points).  Age groups are 10-18 and this is a sanctioned tournament, so the entrant must be a USTA member (a GREAT thing to have).

If you have questions before the entry deadline of TOMORROW (Sat 6/30) at 11:59pm, please contact Coach John, otherwise contact coach Jeff, or signup online at:
http://tennislink.usta.com/Tournaments/TournamentHome_New/Tournament.aspx?T=119449

You can also try emailing Coach Jeff (coach@whitman.edu) after Saturday to see if he can take any late entries (which is likely).

Age groups and skill levels may be combined in small draws and there will be lots of fun and competitive tennis right here in our backyard, join us!
